All about honesty - disclosures and declarations

Why is it important to disclose information and answer declaration questions?

All insurance contracts need both parties to disclose any information that may affect the policy. We will be honest and fair with you and you must be honest and fair with us. This means that we need you to tell us anything that may influence us in deciding whether or not to accept your application and on what terms.

You will also need to let us know if there is a change in your circumstances during the time you are insured with us.

For example, with a car policy you will need to let us know if there are any modifications, if you've been convicted of a driving offence, or had a speeding ticket.

If you have contents insured with us, we'll need to be kept up to date if you move to a new place.

On a house policy you'll need to let us know if you decide to rent your house out, or move back in to a previously rented property.

These are just some examples of things we need to know during the time you're with us, make sure you read your policy wording to find out all the changes you'll need to update us on.

The declaration questions need to be answered honestly so we are able to assess the risk of insuring you and ensure the appropriate cover is in place.

What happens if I do not disclose information and answer the declaration questions honestly?

Trade Me Insurance may decline any claim and/or cancel your insurance policy.
