Contents basics

Check out contents insurance in 60 seconds to get an understanding of contents insurance.

The type of cover provided will depend on the contents item and will fall into one of the following categories:

  • Repair or replacement
  • Present day value

Repair or replace is where we will restore your contents to the same condition (not more or less) that it was in before the loss, limited to a maximum of the sum insured.

Present day value (PDV) is the cost of replacing or repairing your contents to their second hand value.

What is sum insured?

Your sum insured amount is provided by you and based on the total value of your contents. The sum insured is the most we will pay for a claim under your house insurance policy and it's important that you select the right amount. You can choose a sum insured from as low as $10,000 up to $200,000.

Go to Sum insured explained for more information.
